Explain the Cloud Like I'm 10 - By Todd Hoff

This book gave me a good introduction to what the cloud actually is in simple terms. Previously, I thought of the cloud as just servers for hosting websites or storing files. I used to think, “Isn’t using a website already the cloud?” But cloud computing is much more than that.

I’m starting to understand services like AWS S3 and EC2, and how cloud computing allows companies to orchestrate massive computing infrastructure. With AI and machine learning becoming more powerful, there is even more that the cloud can do. The apps and services we use every day will also become increasingly sophisticated, even if they appear simple on the surface.

The author also gave a good overview of how Netflix works behind the scenes, which I found very interesting. As users, we think it’s simple — we open Netflix, press play, and the video starts. But underneath that simplicity is actually a very complex system working together behind the scenes.

Reading this book made me realize that modern software is not just about building websites anymore. It is also about orchestrating infrastructure, storage, networking, scaling, data, and intelligent systems together in a reliable way.
